Invite in Raven Totem!

Crows intrigue us and they aggravate us. They and their other family member, the raven, have a great mysticism and mythology about them. There are actually five species of crows, one of which is the raven. Because they are of the same family (the only real difference being in size) it would be beneficial for those with crow as a totem to also study the qualities and mystical aspects of the raven. The first noticeable characteristic about this bird is its striking black color. Sometimes it will have hints of deep blue and purple on the feathers as well. Black is the color of creation. It is the womb out of which the new is born. It is also the color of the night. Black is the maternal color and thus the black night gives birth to a new day.

When the Raven Totem wanders into our life, it is for a reason. By considering the nature of this magnificent creature we can intuit what we might practice in our lives, whether it is the need to shapeshift, to go into our “dark and bring forth light ” (Ted Williams, Animal Speak), to heal our shadow, or the ability to pay attention and seek omens or undergo a symbolic death.

We can invite in the medicine of the Sacred Raven by buy the animal totem journal and choosing to connect more deeply with this natural nature and earth medicine; know that when you connect with a totem, you are connecting with the collective of raven, or crow, or other corvid. The idea with our journal is that you will use it to write down and journal about raven, crow, or other corvid bird family synchronicity—times in the past or present when the totem of raven presents naturally in your life—and record dreams of the raven totem.

Synchronicity is a term coined by Carl Gustav Jung. The word means events that are somehow mysteriously related and meaningful even though logically they wouldn’t likely seem to be connected in any way. From Wikipedia:

Synchronicity is a concept first introduced by analytical psychologist Carl G. Jung “to describe circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection.” Jung held that to ascribe meaning to certain acausal coincidences can be a healthy, even necessary, function of the human mind—principally, by way of bringing important material of the unconscious mind to attention.

Synchronicity is a way that the Great Spirit, the Universe, speaks with humanity. An example of totem synchronicity might be an experience of seeing butterflies on one or more occasions, then receiving an unexpected piece of mail with a butterfly image on it, and then being gifted a butterfly charm.
